The Monument to the Fatherland is located in the roundabout at the corner of Paseo de Montejo and Calle 27 A in the Itzimná neighborhood, Mérida. Built of stone in 1951, it was sculpted by the Colombian artist Rómulo Rozo in the Neo Maya style. The monument represents the history of the Mexican pre-Hispanic nation until the first decades of the 20th century with an emphasis on the history of the state of Yucatán.
